Principal Report

Dear Families,

Junior Mass

Thank you to all the families who sponsored the Junior Mass- The theme was “Connection” and was attended by the whole school. Red Room supported the juniors with some of the more tricky jobs, however the juniors read their parts beautifully and their participation was respectful and inclusive. I must thank Jordan A and Claire for managing the technology which didn’t want to run as it should. All round team effort.

Grade 3/4 camp

On Monday and Tuesday, the Grade 3/4s attended Allamby Camp. The students’ enjoyed all the adventure activities such as the giant swing, the flying fox, campfire cooking, bush walking and surprised themselves with how much they could take on a challenge. The camp was the first one I have been on where everybody was asleep by 11:00pm… awesome work Grade 3/4 ! Adding to this, the rumours about a rave party in the boys’ rooms are completely unfounded as I sat outside the door until all were asleep, there was a little chatter but no raving.

LITTLE LEARNERS

Our Little learners are settling well and today the Grade 5s, next year’s Grade 6’s sponsored them with interactive play. The children played on the playground with their buddies for next year.

Grade 2’s moving on

The Grade 2’s ventured upstairs and logged onto chrome books with the support of our outgoing Grade 6’s. It is an exciting time for all, there will be a few more visits before the end of the year for the Grade 2’s moving upstairs

Engineers without boarders

This week we had Melbourne University Students visit us as part of their community
engagement project. They worked with the Sacred Heart students on developing safe water filtering projects (juniors) and prosthetic limbs (seniors). Discussions about the need for these developments around the world touched The Catholic Social Justice Teaching ideals and students were encouraged to consider their interest in engineering in the future. The children were keen to put their hands up for that.

Nừdel Kart

In two weeks we will be having another engaging activity with the people from Nừdel Kart https://www.nudelkart.com/. The Nừdel Kart company have interactive giant component parts that can be made into indoor and outdoor play items. There is scope for the equipment to be turned into a whole school project like a pirate ship or small group activity like individual karts. We are exciting about this new resource being used in our school through the STEM program.

Aboriginal Families Afternoon tea

Next Tuesday we will be having the Aboriginal Families Afternoon Tea ... the focus will be on the Male and Female totems “Yeerung and Djeetgun” we are looking at creating more pavers for the school. Afternoon tea will be part of the afternoon.

School uniform

It is great to see most students are wearing the correct school uniform with no brand black shoes please make sure your child has the correct colour shoes. Hats are now compulsory.
Please ensure to send your child with a note (email to teachers) if they are out of uniform, we understand wet socks and muddy shoes and not yet dry jumpers on occasion.

CAR PARK

When dropping off students to the top door parents and carers must park. If you would like to drop off and go quickly please use the bottom drop off zone.
Children cannot be dropped off in front of the flags in the morning and walking back up to the top gate. They cannot be dropped off half way out of the car park on the exit space. Drop off through drive through in the morning must be at the bottom gate. This is essential for the safety of the children.

Communicating with teachers

At Sacred Heart we invest in the partnership we have with families. We invite all parents and carers to communicate with teachers about any concern you may have regarding your child’s education. If there is a concern brought to your attention, please let us know so we can work together to improve learning outcomes. Email is an efficient way to communicate.

Absence at school

If your child is unwell for an extended period, we are required to ask for a medical
certificate. If you are taking your child for a holiday or have a family event for any period of time, we must have written notification. This can be via email or the SIMON everywhere app. Attending school is compulsory, and we are required by law to record daily attendances.

Enjoy the warm weather on the weekend,
God Bless,

Anne-Marie Robb
