Principal Report
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Greetings to you all,
We’ve had a busy two weeks with our fabulous children experiencing wonderful out door challenges and learning in hands on ways. The swimming program last week engaged all students from Foundation to Year 6. The students participating showcased our school in how they conducted themselves from their walking to the pool, to their interactions at the pool engaging with the instructors. We had some experts in getting changed quickly and being organized with their own positions, some talented swimmers and some great team members. The weather has been diverse and with all our outdoor activity we have been lucky to engage in the experiences that we’ve had.
The Grade 3/4s took on challenges at Allambee camp Mirboo North. They worked hard at being part of teams and facing challenges. Together they played games and became very keen players of GaGa. (Gaga is a game that is played in a small sand pit with walls about waist height. The children use a soft ball to tag each other out… the whole game starts with the chant “Ga Ga”). The children were so impressed with it that when the SRC met on Thursday they unanimously voted to have a GaGa pit to be built in the yard.
You may have noticed that the shade sails over our junior play equipment are now removed, this is to do an annual check and repair. We are undergoing checks and repairs on all facilities to ensure the safety of our children.
Grade 3/4 and 5/6 attended an open swim on Wednesday where they learnt about water safety at the Surf Life Saving Club at Wonthaggi. The children were delighted by the vista the ocean offered at the beach. Their interactions with the surf life savers were respectful, their interactions towards each other were encouraging and their behaviour in general presented to the wider community children embracing their world.
Next Tuesday is our transition day. Children will meet their new teachers and get a feel for the rooms they are learning in.
The Class structure is as follows.
Homeroom Foundation / 1
Homeroom 2
Homeroom 3/4
Homeroom 4/5
Homeroom 5/6
Each teacher will send home a letter introducing themselves and the children will engage in get to know you games and Christmas activities.
On the 13th December our whole school will attend an excursion to The Summit Adventure Park for the day. We will celebrate the end of the year together working as a Sacred Heart Team. Last year all our students embraced this day and enjoyed the outdoors and challenges. Forms for our whole school excursion will be sent home on Monday.
On the 14thDecember we are delighted to invite all families to a carol night on the oval. Families are invited to bring a picnic tea to the oval at 5:30pm on Tuesday. All participants over 16 must be double vaccinated and able to show proof to the COVID Marshalls. We will all need to QR code in and socially distance during the picnic. Students in each grade will be singing corals and supporting our Foundation students to act out the “Birth of Jesus” story.
During the 15th December we will all attend a whole school Mass. Attending Mass has not been something that we have been able to celebrate during the year.
Our last day of school is 16th of December. The grade 6 children will spend the day preparing for their Graduation which will include a Mass, and then alfresco dining at the school at 5:30pm in the evening. All attendees will be invited with information and costing being sent out next week. Again over 16 participants will need to be double vaccinated and QR code in with social distancing being expected.
Please enjoy the weekend and blessings to all,
Anne-Marie Robb
