Principal Report

Dear Families,

This afternoon I am writing the newsletter with somewhat tired eyes after
spending last night at Camp Rum Bug with the Grade 3/4s. They have
conquered challenges as a group, and personally as individuals, they have
found their singing voices and are keen to share their successes with our
community on arrival home. Thank you so much to Mrs. Inchincoli, Mrs.
Whitfield, Mrs. Holloway, Ms Mel and Mr Caffrey, who have shared their superpowers
with the children over the two-day camp. There was walking, climbing, eating
and discovering and I know all children will be in bed early tonight.

Interschool Sports
I have enormous pride when reflecting on the Sacred Heart students who have
represented our school in sporting activities over the last two weeks.
The children who went to the Basketball competition on Thursday 3 rd showed
our RISE expectations (Respect, Inclusive, Safe and Everyone) throughout the
day. Their interactions towards each other and their competitors was focussed
and respectful. As the games progressed the teams improved their interactions
and resolve. Well Done
Equally at the interschool Distric Athletic sports our small group of 17 competitors rallied to
pack a punch to the larger schools. The children sat together and again
interacted positively towards each other and with their friends in the other
schools from Morwell.
We have 11 children going to the next level, well done to the whole team.

100 Days Brighter
The junior level again has come up with a wonderful interpretation of the 100
days at school. 100 days brighter was celebrated by the entire junior level on
August 8 th . The Foundation children are growing and achieving personal goals
daily, a testament to their wonderful teacher Mrs. Larkins.
Religion
Over the two weeks between newsletters the juniors have been leading the
way in faith works at school. They have enjoyed visits with Father James at the
church to learn about the Baptismal font and have the opportunity to ask
questions about God and Father James’ job. This was followed by some Godly
Play at school re-enacting the baptism sacrament with teddies and dollies.

Today they juniors prepared Mass, children read prayers on the microphone
and again our beautiful children were respectful and Inclusive during the
service.
The Purple room students I am so proud of used the roaming mic to share their
knowledge of Mary McKillop. They presented to the school Mary’s story, her
challenges and her successes. We are particularly impressed by the idea of
researching (somehow) if Saint Mary McKillop actually came to our school
which was started by the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

School uniform
It is great to see most students are wearing the correct school uniform with no
brand black shoes. This term we are beginning random uniform checks. Please
ensure to send your child with a note (email to teachers) if they are out of
uniform, we understand wet socks and muddy shoes and not yet dry jumpers
on occasion.
In the coming weeks parents may receive a ping on their SIMON everywhere
app if their child is in the incorrect uniform.

Aboriginal Children’s Day August 4 th
This year to celebrate Aboriginal Children’s Day, the children worked on a
collaborative mural- still in progress. The theme was 'Little Voices, Loud
Futures'. The mural, when completed is inspired by this theme and will be
displayed on the windows in from of the car park. Our Children had the
opportunity to create a painting inspired by their NAIDOC week theme “For
our elders”. Thank you to all the children for their creative abilities.

Absence at school
If your child is unwell for an extended period, we are required to ask for a
medical certificate. If you are taking your child for a holiday or have a family
event for any period of time, we must have written notification. This can be via
email or the SIMON everywhere app. Attending school is compulsory, and we
are required by law to record daily attendances.

Communication with school
Adding to the teacher email list is office@shmorwell.catholic.edu.au . Both Ms
Kristy and Mrs. Heinemann receive these emails and will direct the information
or questions to where it needs to go.
