Dear ParentsGuardians & Carers,
Today was a wonderful day with our Little Learners starting their ‘at school’ sessions. Mrs. Dawes will be the Foundation teacher next year and today had a fabulous time meeting them. The group are happy and confident and their interaction with the activities was wonderful to see.
The Little Learners will continue on Friday from the beginning of school until 1:00 for the next 6 weeks. Children to bring a snack, drink bottle, lunch & hat.
Today we celebrated NAIDOC week with a special assembly this afternoon. The National Aborigines and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) was formed in the 1920’s to increase the awareness of Australians in regards to the plight of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. NAIDOC week celebrates the achievements, history and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The theme for 2020 is ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’ and is an opportunity for our school to uphold this tradition and continue to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and cultures. The theme reminds me of the prayer we say in our Rosary the ‘Glory be’.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
This year our Sustainability Warriors were working towards a student developed project around building an Indigenous Kitchen Garden. The COVID pandemic has thwarted their plans this year. We have begun initial plans for planting a “Bush Tucker Garden” and our proposal is that the garden would be a central point of study for ensuring that teachers have a focus for the work needed to be done in the area of Aboriginal Studies.
The primary idea and the long-term goal are to produce food that can be prepared in traditional dishes and that can be used in everyday life. The benefit gained covers the Victorian Curriculum key learning areas in Literacy, Mathematics, Geography, History, Health, Personal and Social development. The garden will facilitate connecting the spiritual focus of our Catholic Faith with the spirituality of the Aboriginal culture. It will be designed as a gathering place for prayer (a prayer garden), storytelling and sharing of creative ideas.
The embellishments in and around the garden will include local story themes which will enhance our school environment and be delivered in art lessons, and become yearly community art installation projects. We are looking to our fabulous families to become involved and embrace our students learning with a sense of connection.
The 2021 student leadership group will work with the whole school to drive the project which will include budgeting, fundraising, interacting with outside sources for sponsorship of ideas, resources and planting, and managing a sustainable garden.
The garden will have long term benefits for all our stakeholders, students, teachers, families and parish.
Please be safe on the long weekend,
God Bless and yours in partnership,
Anne-Marie Robb
After 4 weeks of school we have noticed how well everyone has been. We appreciate your enthusiasm towards learning and hope you are doing well.
This month was Mission month and it was great to see how everyone enthusiastically participated.
Keep up the good work Sacred Heart and enjoy your long weekend.
Little Learners commenced today. Our new Foundations class for 2021 settled in quickly and experienced a fun filled day.
A big thank you to Mrs C Heinemann for orangising school photos for this year when Covid-19 had prevented us from obtaining our regular school photographer, and to Mrs M Inchincoli who brought her professional camera equipment to take individual and class photos. Thank you ladies for giving your consideration and time.
Wishing our students who celebrate their special day from 30th October through to 13th November a wonderful birthday.
