Good Afternoon Sacred Heart Families,
With this last greeting of Term 2 and having passed the shortest day of the year we
have marked the halfway point for 2023. With so many enjoyable learning
experiences had so far this year we look forward to a loads of fabulous challenges in
Term Three. Our Big Idea for Term Three is “Choices”. We will be focussing on the
Health components of the Physical Education Curriculum, which directs study on
healthy eating, effects of smoking, drugs and alcohol, the benefits from social fitness,
and how bodies grow best. From ‘To Live in Christ Jesus’ the RE curriculum students
will study scripture that highlights the choices Jesus makes and study the old
testament story of “Jospeh and his coat of many colours” focussing on the choices
that Joseph made in his life. We will be learning about the loving relationship that is
God, expressed through Jesus and his mission and how believers are called to make
right choices in morally/ethically challenging situations.
Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge
On Tuesday the 14th of June the junior students enjoyed an excursion to see the
live show Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge. The students had been studying the
story as part of the Big Idea EXPLORE about young Wilfred who goes on an
exploration hunt for memories. Later during the week, the juniors rated the
performance and most gave 5 stars.
Book Bash- Andy Griffiths
On the same day Tuesday, the 14 th the seniors had an on-line experience called “The
Book Bash” Andy Griffiths author of the Tree House series zoomed in from
Melbourne Library for a real-time session where he talked about his ideas and
writing comedy fiction for children.
Feast Day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
We celebrated our feast day, “The Sacred Heart of Jesus” on Friday 16 th of June.
Again, I commend our beautiful children for the respect they show at Mass. The
fervour they express when they volunteer for a job at a service is wonderful. There
are never enough jobs to go around. After Mass the seniors had an illustrator show
them via zoom the finer points of how to create underwater sea creatures. The
students had already had some ideas prior to the presentation. All students created
hearts for a collaborative artwork which will be on display in the office in Term 3.
There was biscuit decorating in the school colours and cross aged activities during
the day.
Grade 6 Kinder visits
This week the Grade 6’s visited two kindergartens for three different sessions. The
children developed a range of items to find in the kindergarten that could be many
things. They worked with the little people to share understandings and extend
vocabulary. One item to find was a crawly thing, I think ants and bugs were the most
commonly found items but one of the kinder kids got down on the ground and said, “I
can crawl”. This work supported the study the children are participating in for their
study EXPLORE and fulfills out Vision and Mission which states “Gospel Values
inspire our vision, empowering all learners to achieve their potential in contributing to
a flouring world. And As a community of faith, we strive to educate all learners to be
respectful, inclusive, and caring to achieve excellence and to contribute to the world”.
The students have already begun to plan for next Term “Choices”.
Barb From Bunnings
Barb from Bunnings visited us yesterday for the juniors to experience an art activity
creating amazing tiles using a marbling technique. The tiles look amazing, and we
can’t wait to use them in our garden. Barb has supported our school last year and
this year and is supporting Mrs. Whitfield in the creation of the Bush Tucker Garden.
A big thanks to Bunnings for their support with materials and Barb’s time.
Uniform
Please continue to send your children in correct uniform, children must wear black
shoes on the four days they do not have sport. If they are wearing runners, they
must not have brand logos on them.
Head Lice
There has been increased incidence of Head Lice in the school. We ask all parents
to check their students and use the chemist recommended brand of headlice
shampoo. This often needs to be repeated several times as some eggs can go
undetected and hatch up to three weeks after treatment. Cleaning all linen is
necessary and vigilance when combing hair also important.
Reports
Reports will be released this evening. You will be able to access them on PAM.
Blessings for the Winter Holidays. I hope for you all that hot chocolate and warm
fireplaces are in abundance.
God Bless,
Anne-Marie Robb
On Tuesday and Thursday the grade sixes went on 3 excursions to Goodstart Early Learning. They went to the Kinder on Holmes road and the kindergarten on Commercial road. They had a lot of fun doing an activity based on the inquiry topic “Explore”. They done a scavenger hunt with the kinder kids.
Last Wednesday the Juniors went on an excursion to the theatre in Warragul. They saw a play called Wilfred Gordon. They had a great time.
Last week we had an extra long weekend because of the King's birthday. We also had a Student free day on Tuesday. We had a very long rest and came back to school on Wednesday full of energy.
