Dear Families,
The students and teachers have embraced another fortnight of fabulous experiences at
school.
Foundation 2024
The prospective students for next year’s Foundation have enjoyed a series of three days to
“Come and Try”, next month I will be offering the Foundation parents an interview time to
talk about their student. We will be having a series of transition days in Term 4 “Little
Learners” which have proven to ensure the beginning of school is a wonderful event for our
new children. If you know anyone who is interested in enrolling their child at Sacred Heart
for any level in 2024 please encourage them to contact the office to begin the process.
Unwell students
We have had a considerable number of students report being unwell. Often having a
persistent cough long after the children are presenting as well again. Please contact the
school if you are unsure about your child returning to school.
Body Growth, Health talks
As part of our Big Idea “Choices” the students have studied how their bodies work. The
Foundation students to Year 2 have looked at body parts and the Year 3-6 have learnt about
body change and both the girls and boys have or will be having separate sessions about how
their body changes as they move into teenage hood. We are so grateful to Erin Tanti, (Kosta
and Lucy’s mum) for sharing her knowledge about the human body through engaging
activities. Erin is a registered nurse and has, through her talks shared respectful discussions
about growth and change that I am sure has prompted discussion at home.

VICSPELL
This year on Thursday 17 th August we sent three children to the state competition for
spelling. Jordan Gallicchio, Shenli Karunmuni and Oscar Stephenson, (Brylie Patton was also
chosen to go but was unwell on the day) . Students competed against Saint Pauls, Chairo,
Grey St. and Newborough primary schools. Shenuli got through to the next stage for the
Grade 5 level, well done!
Book Week and National Day against Violence
Last Friday we officially began our celebrations for Book Week. We had rotational activities
to celebrate both National Day against Violence and Book Week. In the morning block the
students paraded around with their costumes and. A fabulous number of original costumes
created by the children themselves was exciting to see.
Children explored activities that assisted them to recognise safe behaviours at school and
out in the community. They discussed the safe people in their lives that they could talk to
and created mind maps on their thinking.
Cricket at School
Mark Smith from the Morwell Cricket club came to the school on Wednesday to support the
Grade 3-6 children in a skills session. All the children enjoyed the sessions and some will
now have an opportunity to engage with the district cricket competition later in the year.
Religion
This week Mrs. Inchincoli has been away for two days at an in-service learning all about the
Gospel of Mark. Mark's account doesn't shy away from the unexpected nature of Jesus'
arrival on Earth, but he also makes clear that Jesus is who he says he is: the Jewish Messiah
and the son of God. Mark’s Gospel was the earliest written gospel in the bible, being written
only 30 years after Jesus death. At the time many of the Jewish people hoped that the
Messiah would come to overthrow the Romans and rule as king, but that wasn't what Jesus
did.
School Advisory Committee- AGM
This term we are looking for a new committee for the School Advisory Committee. The SAC
is a group of parents and potentially parishioners who come together 5 times in a year to
discuss what is happening in the school and to share their thoughts on the direction of the
school. If you are interested please collect a nomination form, from the office next week.
We have five members moving on and we have 6 spots to fill.
School uniform
It is great to see most students are wearing the correct school uniform with no brand black
shoes. This term we are beginning random uniform checks. Please ensure to send your child
with a note (email to teachers) if they are out of uniform, we understand wet socks and
muddy shoes and not yet dry jumpers on occasion.
In the coming weeks parents may receive a ping on their SIMON everywhere app if theirchild is in the incorrect uniform.
Absence at school
If your child is unwell for an extended period, we are required to ask for a medical
certificate. If you are taking your child for a holiday or have a family event for any period of
time, we must have written notification. This can be via email or the SIMON everywhere
app. Attending school is compulsory, and we are required by law to record daily
attendances.
Communication with school
Adding to the teacher email list is office@shmorwell.catholic.edu.au Both Ms Kristy and
Mrs. Heinemann receive these emails and will direct the information or questions to where
it needs to go.

The Child Safe Standards
Child Safe Standard 1 - Relevant entities establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 - Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 - Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
